Bodegas Ronsel do Sil 'Vel'uveyra' Mencia, Ribeira Sacra, Spain 2021
The Ronsel do Sil Vel’uveyra comes from the estate’s steep, terraced vines that are between 10 and 60 years old. Vela`uveyra, which means “to gaze at the vineyards” in the local dialect, is predominately Mencía, with small amounts of Garnacha and the local Negreda, all grown in granitic soils. The grapes are hand harvested and fermented with native yeasts in 5,000-liter oak foudres, followed by 8 months of aging in concrete. Deep purple in color with entrancing aromas of spicy dark fruit and white pepper. The palate is fresh and lively with a strong mineral core and firm, svelte tannins that lead into a refreshing and complex finish.
